How Oily is Your Life? ...a DIY deodorant Recipe

Have you ever experimented with essential oils? In the last few months I have been looking for all kinds of ways to incorporate them into our life such as:
 - Tea tree oil in my homemade laundry detergent
 - Grapefruit seed extract in produce washes
 - Oil of Oregano for fighting germs + illness
Well - things are gonna get a little oilier in our house.

A few weeks ago, Julie, who is an essential oil Expert, contacted me to talk more about all the bazillion ways you can use essential oils to make life more holistically awesome.

She kindly sent me a little care package with vials of doTERRA Lemon, Peppermint + Lavender Oils to play around with. I've been focusing on the Peppermint this week and have been breathing it in during my morning clarity/meditation session, added a drop to my water, gave my husband a scalp massage and added a few drops to coconut oil and slathered it on before heading out for a run on a hot day....felt ahmazing!!!

Julie loves the HolFit community and offered to do a guest post. Score! I asked her to solve 2 of the most common questions I get from you guys & clients when it comes to products.....what is a safe & effective way to deodorize and to sunblock? So today Julie's brought an amazing recipe for deodorant and she'll be back with us later this week with a great DIY sunblock recipe. Enjoy!

When leaving for the day the majority of us put on deodorant or antiperspirant before leaving the house. The only problem is that these anti antiperspirants stop the body from doing what it's meant to do. SWEAT! It's our bodies way of cooling it down. Antiperspirants also contain compounds-such as aluminum chloride, aluminum chlorohydrate and aluminum zirconium-to form a temporary sweat duct plug that have been linked to breast cancer and Alzheimer. Although the research is still being done to see if these products in certain amounts could effect humans, why not protect yourself when there are other options out there?DIYDeodorant4
This deodorant recipe was adapted and changed from a recipe submitted to doTERRA by Dr. Matthew Hales and published in their Living Magazine. It's a deodorant with straight essential oils only! No chemicals, not fillers, all goodness wrapped up into one little roller bottle.

Why These Oils?
Purify:This antibacterial oil has disinfectant properties and works for deodorizing. It aids in inhibiting bacterial growth. This oil is the secret weapon and a nessecary of this blend.
Clary Sage:This oil is great for hormonal balance and was historically used for female complaints.
Frankincense: This oil is great for immune system support, emotional balance and an overall great oil to use daily.
Lemon: Lemon oil is invigorating and a great wake up. It is a disinfectant and also purifies.
Lavender: One of my favorite oils. This oil is calming to the skin and healing. It is antimicrobial and antifungal.
Lemongrass: This oil may help with waking up the lymphatic system and getting oxygen flow.
Coconut Oil: I used coconut oil in my blend because I have sensitive skin and need some of these oils to be a bit diluted.
I keep this little roller bottle on my bathroom vanity and make it part of my everyday routine. It's stops the smell and the lemon makes my armpits smell fresh all day.

If you want to try just one oil to start, Purify is the best for deodorant by itself. I have many friends who use this oil straight. It's a strong oil with a woodsy smell and has worked wonders on replacing regular deodorants full of chemicals.

I hope you enjoy this great alternative for deodorant!
